Every year Guru Poornima is celebrated with much joy in India. This day is a celebration of Gurus and it is observed by holding a Pooja or other celebratory events in honour of the Guru.

Dr Gopa Chakrabarti’s students revere her as their Guru and every year on Guru Poornima they hold an elaborate event in her honour. This year, Guru Poornima was celebrated on July 21, 2024. Dr Chakrabarti’s students organized festivities through a pooja, group performances and also individual presentations. The students left the audience spell bound with group performances such as Guru Vandana, Bhajans such as ‘Aisi Lagi Lagan’, medley of old hindi songs in Taal Rupak, Ram Stuti, Bada Khayal in Raag Maru Bihag and a kids’ performance of popular bhajans among others. Her online students celebrated the event a day before on July 20 by offering various individual performances of popular bhajans and Hindi film songs.

The star performer of the evening was Dr Chakrabarti herself who performed a transcendent Chhota Khayal of Raag Sur Malhar and a Tarana of the same raag. Click here to view videos and images from the event.
